Monday night’s game between Buffalo and Cincinnati was suspended after the second-year safety collapsed, received CPR and was taken away by ambulance

Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety, suffered cardiac arrest after being hit, but his heartbeat was restored by medical personnel, the Bills said. The game against the Cincinnati Bengals was postponed.

Hamlin heartbeat was restored on the field and he was taken to a Cincinnati hospital, the Bills said.
The NFL postponed the game, saying details on next steps would come at an “appropriate time.”

Players who saw Hamlin lying face up and motionless frantically called for medical personnel, and an ambulance was brought onto the field.

In a statement released around 10 p.m. ET, the NFL said Hamlin was in critical condition in a Cincinnati hospital.

In a teleconference around midnight, the NFL said it does not have any update on Hamlin’s condition beyond what they released earlier.

“This is where every second or minute counts,” said Dr. Rigved Tadwalkar, a cardiologist at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, speaking generally about a lack of oxygen to the brain.

“The amount of time that you don’t profuse the brain is a higher possibility of having irreversible brain damage in those first several minutes that we would really want to have a successful resuscitation.”

Earlier in the first quarter, Bills cornerback Taron Johnson left the game with a head injury after attempting to tackle Bengals tight end Hayden Hurst. Johnson was attended to on the field by team trainers for several minutes before walking off.
